I've launched a petition on coastal erosion at Start Bay

Today I’ve continued working at pace on the crisis with the A379 Slapton Line and wider coastal erosion at Start Bay.

𝐀𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲’𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐈 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝟏𝟎𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

On reflection, I am not convinced this is the right approach.

The priority right now is to work at speed and while I am certain we can get 100k signatures, the issue is that even if we do a debate won’t be scheduled immediately – it often takes a long time!

I will use this petition during my conversations with the government to demonstrate the strength of feeling about the future of the A379 Slapton Line and protecting coastal communities at threat from erosion.

Alongside this, I have applied for another parliamentary debate about supporting coastal communities in Start Bay, where I will raise the A379 Slapton Line and the situation at Beesands, and I will also stand up in parliament to highlight the number of petition signatures.
