Government U-turns on teacher pay awards
Finally, the government has realised they can't give teachers a pay rise and then not fund it. You would have hoped that was obvious from the start…
As Schools Spokesperson, I’ve been campaigning hard for the thousands of schools that had no means to fund this latest pay rise when there was nothing left to cut.
Some were cutting support staff, which was having a knock-on effect to already overstretched teachers.
I'm glad the government has seen sense, but schools shouldn't have gone through the stress of working out where the money would come from.
They're being asked to make changes right, left and centre, with numerous bits of new legislation coming through - schools have plenty to cope with without having to lose more staff because of underfunding from the government.
