Watch my PMQ on coastal erosion at Start Bay

I just asked the Prime Minister about the devastating storm damage to Start Bay and the closure of the A379.

I highlighted that this is a place that has stepped up twice to defend our country - once when one and a half million cubic metres of shingle were dredged from the bay to build the naval dockyards in Plymouth, and again when it was used as the training ground for the D-Day landings, at a cost of 750 American soldiers' lives. I also mentioned that it is the site of a unique national nature reserve with rare species found only here.

I asked the Prime Minister to ensure that the myriad of government agencies and departments needed will work together with experts to find and fund a sustainable long-term solution to the coastal erosion that is causing this damage.

The Prime Minister's response wasn't what we needed - he acknowledged the damage but didn't commit to the coordinated, sustainable solution that Start Bay desperately needs.

I am meeting with the Minister for Roads and and the Minister for Flooding shortly. I will keep you all updated.
