The mental health crisis among young people in the UK is reaching breaking point. Services are chronically underfunded, with a toxic combination of rising demand, workforce shortages, and long waiting times leaving too many people unable to get the care they desperately need.
Today, one in five children and young people experience mental health difficulties. And, shockingly, suicide remains the leading cause of death among young people.
Poor mental health also carries severe economic costs, with young people with mental health conditions 5x more likely to be economically active.
This is not just a health crisis, but an economic and social one that needs a comprehensive plan to address.
I was pleased to co-sign the below letter outlining 4 steps the Health Secretary could take to tackle this crisis.
