Big news: Torbay Hospital receives £8m for Tower Block repairs

I am thrilled to share that Torbay Hospital has secured a further £8 million for urgent fire safety work to its Tower Block.

Earlier this month, I wrote to the Health Secretary, calling for this funding to be released, and last week, urged the Health Minister to respond to the crisis.

I’m really pleased the government has acted. But this whole saga has exposed the difficult position Torbay Hospital has been left in after the government delayed much needed repairs until 2032.

Torbay’s estate is one of the oldest in the country and significant parts of the hospital are unfit for purpose. If we want a 21st-century standard of healthcare, we must invest in the infrastructure to deliver it.

I’m relieved that the remedial work can now begin, but I will keep pushing for investment in the rest of the hospital. You can find a link in the comments with further information.
