Watch my speech on the Hughes Report and the pelvic mesh scandal

I spoke in Westminster Hall on the Hughes Report and the ongoing pelvic mesh and sodium valproate scandals - two years after the Patient Safety Commissioner set out clear recommendations for redress, support and compensation. Two years on, women are still suffering, children are still living with preventable disabilities, and families are still waiting for justice.

I shared the experiences of two of my constituents, Susan and Caroline, whose lives have been devastated by mesh complications, medical denial, and a system that has repeatedly failed them. Their stories are not isolated - thousands of women across the UK are living with chronic pain, organ damage, financial ruin and profound trauma because of mesh implants. And families affected by sodium valproate exposure continue to struggle without the support they urgently need.

The Hughes Report offered a compassionate, practical path forward. The Government has still not acted.

We need an independent redress scheme, proper financial and medical support, a full moratorium on mesh, and a system that finally ends the culture of cover‑up and denial that has harmed so many.

Justice delayed is justice denied.
