Watch my speech on repairing our ties with the EU
Ten years ago, the British public voted to leave the EU by a wafer-thin margin. What followed was a poorly planned and executed exit which damaged the UK’s economy in ways we are far from recovering from.
Last night, I was proud to speak on behalf of the hundreds of South Devonians who signed a petition calling for the UK to rejoin the EU.
I am sure many of those signatories were pleased yesterday when the Prime Minister signalled a willingness to work much closer with the EU.
Such language is long overdue. For years, successive governments have avoided speaking about the damage Brexit wreaked on the UK.
It has been clear since the day we left that Brexit has catastrophically failed and that the sunlit uplands which the Leave campaign preached were nothing more than a fantasy.
For our economy, young people, fishers, farmers, and other exporters, and for our values and security, we have to change the status quo.
