Watch my speech on protecting parents rights in SEND reforms

It is deeply worrying that Labour MPs reportedly received instructions to tell the Education Secretary there was ‘relief’ from parents about the government’s SEND reforms.

Relief is a far cry from what I’m hearing.

Parents are terrified about the curtailing of SEND tribunals and the danger that their child will lose hard fought for rights.

Given that currently 99% of tribunal cases are won by families against the local authority, how can we trust that local authorities will suddenly start getting it right under the new system?

And how does the curtailing of SEND tribunals stack up with the government’s pledge to put children first?

It is absolutely vital that children and their families remain at the heart of any reforms. I’ll keep pushing for the retention of key rights.
