Watch my speech on dementia care

Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK. But while its scale is national, anyone who knows someone who’s been affected by this awful disease will know its impact is deeply local and personal.

Already widespread, as our population ages, the number of patients, unfortunately, is expected to rise sharply.

In Devon, however – with one of the oldest populations in England – this issue is not just coming; it’s already here. And unless we act now, to improve diagnosis, care, and support, we will fail tens of thousands of families in our communities.

We urgently need a national strategy to support people with dementia and their families at every stage.

Today, I led a debate which called for this. You can watch my speech below.
