It’s time to end the cage age of animal farming, and that call comes not only from politicians but from the public, and nowhere more so than in South Devon.
Yesterday, in Westminster, we debated a petition to end the use of cages and crates for all farmed animals, which received 513 signatures from South Devon, the highest in the country.
From a mostly rural constituency, that’s a powerful message, showing the desire for a future built on compassion, not cruelty.
I urged the government to finally act to end the cage age of animal farming, not through vague pledges or delayed consultations, but with a clear strategy produced in conjunction with farmers and producers.
