Watch my question to the Work and Pensions Secretary about protecting PIP support for those with mental health conditions

I’ve been contacted by multiple constituents distressed about what the changes to the PIP assessment system mean for those with mental health or other fluctuating conditions.

Some people may not be able to show the required evidence of how their condition impacts their lives, and, as a result, may lose the support they need.

Today, I asked the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if the PIP assessment system will be updated to take these genuine concerns into account.

I can’t deny my disappointment at the vagueness of her response. As the Liberal Democrats have repeatedly stressed, if the government was serious about cutting welfare spending, it would get on with the job of fixing health and social care, so people have the support they need to transition successfully back into work.
