Watch my question to the PM about our shellfish industry

Today, I had the chance to ask the Prime Minister about his Government’s UK/EU deal.

Speaking after many of my colleagues, I tailored my question to an industry that is important to Brixham, and particularly to one company, Offshore Shellfish

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister couldn’t tell me if bi-valve molluscs fished in Grade-B waters will be covered by this new SPS Agreement, but I await a response from a Minister.

This might sound like a niche question, but the answer is vital for shellfish exporters in South Devon, who’ve been struggling for so long since Brexit.

As I’ve said, the UK/EU deal was, for me, a mixed bag. While I’m happy with the new SPS Agreement, I do have deep concerns that the Government has signed us up to the status quo on fishing access for a further 12 years.

While it’s positive that an agreement has been reached across trade and defence, the Government must work with our fishing industry to understand how it will be impacted by this extension.
