Watch my question to the Minister about maritime apprenticeships
The Minister just doesn’t get it. It may not sound like much, but his response demonstrated a total ambivalence about an issue impacting us in South Devon.
Specialised apprenticeships may not have the take up of national schemes, but they are critical for the sectors they serve.
The Small Commercial Vessel Crewmember apprenticeship, which Skills England is proposing to withdraw funding from, is a prime example of this.
It is a key route for young people into the workboat and small commercial vessel sector and helps support our growing maritime industry.
I’m glad to be with neighbouring MPs on this, and we’ll continue pushing for Skills England to reconsider its proposal.
