I genuinely welcome the government’s plan to introduce more technical education into schooling, but I do question where schools are supposed to recruit the teachers from.
Already, there is a recruitment crisis in further education colleges. Three quarters of colleges in England are unable to recruit the necessary staff to teach technical subjects, and 40% have had to cancel or scale back trade and vocational courses because of a lack of staff.
Without the staff to teach technical education, the government’s plans will never come to fruition. So, today, I asked the Education Secretary a simple question: where are the teachers coming from?
