Watch my question about reforming the NHS dentistry contract

While the additional NHS funding announced in the Chancellor’s Spending Review was welcome, there was shockingly little said about social care and dentistry.

Today, I asked the Health Minister about the latter, and I can’t deny my disappointment at her response.

Questions about solving the dentistry crisis shouldn’t devolve into political point-scoring when there are people out there pulling their own teeth out because they can’t get a dentist.

We’ve already lost three dental surgeries in South Devon since the election, and while the 700,000 extra dental appointments announced by the Government in February are welcome, the truth is we don’t have enough NHS dentists to deliver them.

That’s why reforming the contract is so vital, and that’s why I’ll continue to press the Government to do this.
