Today, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster made a statement on the UK’s resilience. In it, he confirmed the next date to test the nationwide emergency alarm – so, be prepared on 7th September for a very loud beep!
The Minister spoke about pandemic preparedness and protecting the UK from cyberattacks. Both are incredibly important in our unstable world. But what I noticed was missing from his statement was any discussion on food security.
Because we are so reliant on imports, the UK’s food chain is uniquely vulnerable to shocks. We saw this during the pandemic. I’m sure many of you remember the empty shelves and food shortages we experienced.
Food security is absolutely vital to boost the UK’s resilience – so, I asked the Minister what the Government’s plans were to improve it.
