Watch my question about boosting economic growth in South Devon

Did you know the average house price in South Devon is now 14x the average salary!

What a damning statistic which sums up not only the state of social housebuilding in this country but also the extreme widening of economic inequality we’ve seen too.

Today, I asked the Chancellor about her plans to include South Devon and other rural and coastal areas in measures to boost economic growth.

While the Chancellor pointed to the Government’s plans to drastically increase housebuilding across the country, it’s important to say that that policy in its current form will not help solve our housing crisis.

It does nothing to stop developers focusing their efforts on building houses that are unaffordable for most.

What the Government must do is properly fund local councils so they can build social houses we need.
