Watch my interview on supporting rural schools
BBC Devon are completely right, addressing the funding disparities between rural and urban schools is a long-running campaign, which we absolutely must continue.
I remember being completely floored by the gap between what a high needs child in Camden receives (£3,565) versus a high needs child in Devon (£1,245). How can it cost three times as much for a child to be educated in Camden?
In short, it can’t! Closing this disparity is just one measure contained within the Rural and Coastal Schools motion, which I spearheaded at the Lib Dem conference.
We cannot allow chronic central government blindness to erase local opportunities for the next generation.
The time is long overdue to back our coastal and rural schools with the funding, teachers, and protections they need.
