It was incredibly sad in February when Devon Rape Crisis closed its helpline due to a drop in funding.
As I said then, it’s absolutely vital services like this get long-term sustainable funding, instead of the piecemeal, fragmented funding currently on offer.
It’s near impossible to plan or deliver services, which are so important, if you can only budget for a few months ahead.
This week, I intervened during a debate to again emphasise my calls for sustainable funding and for the establishment of some national government oversight to monitor how funding is allocated.
