Watch my intervention about protecting young women and girls from sexual violence

Did you know that a report from May 2023 by the Children’s Commissioner for England found that almost half of 16-21-year-olds thought girls expected sex to involve physical aggression?

Or that four out of five of those surveyed had seen pornography involve violence by the age of 18, with one in three actively seeking out depictions of sexual violence, such as degradation.

Content that would be prohibited offline is prevalent online and considered mainstream. We urgently need to address this and update our pornography laws to keep pace with modern technology.

It is unacceptable for young people to exist in a world in which they are stumbling across violent and misogynistic pornography on social media sites.

OnlyFans is a good example of this problem. Often the only way creators can market their content is by pushing it out to other social media sites.

In a Westminster Hall debate this week, I called for this to change.
