On BBC Politics South West this weekend, I again delivered my verdict on the Government’s incredibly poor, ill-thought-out decision to cut the therapy grant available for adopted children.
Adopted children are often among the most traumatised in our society. The abuse, neglect, and instability they’ve endured in their earliest years leave last scars – affecting their development, their ability to trust, and their mental health.
But with the right support, these children can heal. Therapy gives them a second chance – to feel safe, build meaningful relationship, and lead stable, loving lives.
The long-term costs of underfunding support are enormous. Without proper support, placements may break down, forcing children back into care.
Restoring unsustainable funding is essential – and I hope the Government reconsiders this immoral and cruel decision.
