I’ve just returned from appearing before the backbench business committee where I successfully applied for a debate on banking services in rural areas. The debate's date is TBC.

Bank branches are closing every week across the country, leaving many towns without services.

𝐈𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐧, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 – 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬.

I hope this debate will consider the responsibility banks have to their customers and the current eligibility for granting banking hubs.

I know the services these hubs can offer are limited, but the face-to-face aspect is vital. Plus, they take the pressure off post offices.
