Dementia is the leading cause of death in England & Wales, and it’s essential we ensure adequate resources and support are available to victims and their families.
To that end, I applied this week for a debate on dementia care in the UK. I’m hoping to learn the outcome soon.
This is a much-needed debate. I won’t be the only MP whose inbox is full of heartbreaking stories of families struggling to get the support they need.
Dementia takes a huge financial, emotional, and physical toll. Patients are having to wait far too long for a diagnosis. Unpaid carers and the cost of care are pushing families to breaking point. And, to top it all off, the quality of service is so often a postcode lottery.
I know this because dementia is affecting my own family. I’m committed to improving the lives of patients and families suffering from dementia.
