Watch me deliver my Green Spaces Bill

It was a pleasure to present my Green Spaces Bill to the House for its Second Reading this afternoon.

As the last Private Members Bill to be heard today, I only had a few minutes to outline the aims of the Bill – to create an Office for Green Spaces which would be responsible for promoting access to green space across the UK – and to share the reasons behind it.

Here in South Devon we are lucky to be surrounded by beautiful countryside, but more than half of adults in the UK are unable to walk to a public park or common. A coordinated cross-government approach is vital to ensure green spaces are created and maintained, while planning policy must be developed with green spaces as a priority.

With clear benefits for health and wellbeing, the environment, and the economy, this is a win-win situation.
