The Independent: We must close the education funding gap

When you look at the distribution of funding, it’s no surprise that pupils in London are outperforming the rest of the country.
It’s frankly scandalous that children are being let down by successive governments overfocusing on London. How can it be right that a Camden school is paid nearly three times as much as a school in Devon for every child with additional needs on their roll?
Our children deserve better. I’ve repeatedly pushed the Schools Minister to consider amending the National Funding Formula to address this inequality. Given the Government’s ambition to close the disadvantage gap, you’d think this would be a priority. Unfortunately, over a year in, we’ve seen little action.
When parliament returns, I’ll continue pushing for this historic unfairness to be fixed.
