Sign my petition calling for the Government to protect rural Post Offices

Updated: Jul 24

We’ve seen a number of rural Post Office closures recently in South Devon, including in Churchstow, Dittisham, and Aveton Gifford. I’m extremely concerned about the impact this may have on local communities and businesses.

In rural areas like ours, Post Offices act as important community hubs and provide access to communication, banking, and other vital services, particularly for the elderly and those with limited connectivity.

They absolutely must be protected from the centralisation of Post Office services, which is disproportionately impacting rural communities. If you agree, please consider signing my petition calling for the Government to support rural Post Offices.

I’m proud to have also submitted an Early Day Motion (EDM) calling for the Government to improve its support for rural Post Offices. Many of my colleagues have signed this EDM, showing their concern about rural Post Office branch closures.

You can read my EDM below or here.

I have lived in Churchstow, South Devon for the last 4 years & had come to rely on our local post office for sending parcels, sending & collecting money & stamps. As I cannot walk too far due to a serious knee injury & only with a stick I am finding it very difficult to do the above as the nearest post office is about 4 - 5 miles away. As I do not drive this means that I have to catch a bus which only runs every 1 - 2 hours to the nearest post office. Once at the destination I then have to catch another bus which then stops about a quarter of a mile from said post…
