Pleased to join over 60 of my colleagues and Pancreatic Cancer UK in writing to the Minister of Care about the shocking shortages of Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT).
PERT plays a vital role in helping people with pancreatic cancer properly digest their food, maintain a healthy weight and be well enough to have treatment, including life-saving surgery.
And for those where treatment is no longer an option, PERT can make their final months much more comfortable.
With more than 61,000 people replying on PERT, whether for pancreatic cancer or for other conditions, urgent action is needed.
While the Government has been taking steps to tackle the shortage, the situation isn’t being resolved quickly enough.
We’re asking the Government to convene a high-level stakeholder roundtable, produce a detailed action plan, and establish a PERT shortage taskforce to tackle this growing crisis.
