Securing a new agreement is absolutely vital to slash the ridiculous levels of red tape our fishers and those working in the seafood sector face whenever they try to trade with our closest neighbour.

Back in March, I visited the European Parliament, and I was pleased to hear not only our European partners but a government representative express willingness to reach a new veterinary agreement soon.

As I point out in the piece, we’ve heard similar words before, and the key part now will be converting this rhetoric into tangible improvements for our fishers.

Brexit was sold to our fishers as a golden opportunity, but the reality has been anything but. With the UK/EU Summit coming next week, the time has come for action.
