My statement on the Heaton Park Synagogue attack

I am horrified and appalled by yesterday’s attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
This appalling crime, and the religious bigotry underpinning it, has no place in our country.
It undermines and affects all of us, no matter where we live, and shakes the very foundations of a society built on friendship, connection, and tolerance that we strive for.
Everyone deserves to live safely in the UK, whatever their background or religion. Attacks like this are not who we are.
My thoughts are with the families of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, our brave emergency services, and the entire Jewish community.
