I’m so excited to have been elected as a delegate to the UK-EU parliamentary assembly.
Now more than ever, it’s vital for the UK to improve its relationship with the EU and for us to work together to find ways to iron out some of the post-Brexit difficulties.
I hope our regular meetings will build the constructive dialogue needed to do this, and I’m looking forward to working again with people from my MEP days, including Sandro Gozi from Renew Europe.
Top of my agenda are a youth mobility scheme and a veterinary agreement, which is important for our fishing industry in South Devon which has been hit so badly by layers upon layers of bureaucracy and red tape.
Ultimately, I want to see the UK return to the EU single market so businesses up and down the country once again have free access to our biggest trading partner.
The trade barriers we erected after the Brexit vote were nothing short of economic sabotage. We must do everything we can to restore trade and give our economy the shot in the arm it so desperately needs.
