The other day I joined a group of farmers from across the South Hams to hear more about the issues that are challenging them - and also to hear their passion for a lifestyle that is so much more than a job!
Aside from the amazing cakes, on the table for discussion were environmental subsidies, food security, TB in cattle, planning constraints, agri run-off, supermarket contracts, milk prices and much more…
Really useful discussion and I look forward to seeing many of them on their own farms soon.
I’m also looking forward to sticking up for this vital sector and taking the rural voice to parliament.
We all agreed producing food and nurturing nature are not and do not have to be mutually exclusive. I’m excited about the task of supporting farmers to be as nature friendly as possible while securing our food supply - AND being properly rewarded for it.
