Old Crockern and friends gathered at Hay Tor this evening ahead of tomorrow’s appeal at the High Court on the Dartmoor wild camping case.
Landowner and Tory donor Alexander Darwall won a court case in January this year which removed the right to wild camp on Dartmoor. It was replaced by a system of permission to be given (and potentially withdrawn) by landowners in return for a nominal payment.
Dartmoor was the last place in England and Wales where wild camping was permitted without seeking permission.
Ironically Darwall has done more to activate the Right to Roam movement in the UK than anyone for decades.
